Within the LIFE-IP SK Air Quality Improvement project, positions of Air Quality Managers were established for the entire territory of Slovakia. Air Quality Managers operate within the territorial units of self-governing regions and cooperate with municipalities, in which air pollution is caused by household heating. The creation of these positions resulted from the need to coordinate and improve the air quality management measures directly in the most concerned regions, in particular by:
- Providing information on regional and/or local air quality development
- Monitoring the implementation of individual measures aimed at air quality improvement included in the Air Quality Management Plans and reporting to the competent district office at the seat of a Region
- Proposing measures to improve the regional air quality in cooperation with state institutions, self-government, the industry, educational system, NGOs and the public
- Supporting air quality measures and raising awareness of air protection and air quality
- Ensuring the implementation of specific measures directly into practice, together with the preparation of communication strategies when implementing new measures into practice
- Assisting directly to regional and local authorities in addressing air quality problems
- Providing information on funding opportunities from the national and EU funds (ESIF) and preparing projects and grant applications for available funds for air quality improvement
- Running information and awareness-raising campaigns as well as educational programmes - processing information materials and media outputs on air quality
- Designing and distributing information materials, publications and media presentations, including content on social media
- Receiving written suggestions from the expert community and general public, especially concerning transport and household heating (form)
